If we remove the hard drive from the above estimate and then use the tool to recalculate, the total required watts changes to 134 watts total. While 50 watts extra might be over kill in the 200 watt range when you get up to 500 watts it is only 10% of the total. Clearly, the estimated power supply requirements must be inflated or my system would fry when powering on. My question is this.

They list very high requirements because a lot of people have garbage OEM power supplies that come with their case and/or pre-built rig.by 400w that does not mean the gtx 960 There are vendors who will sell you a power supply that is made with the appropriate connectors for these Dell systems.
